What is the LGPD?

The General Data Protection Law (Law No. 13.709/2018) is the Brazilian legislation that regulates how companies, entities, and organizations can collect, use, store, and share personal data. Inspired by the European data protection regulation (GDPR), the LGPD aims to guarantee the privacy and fundamental rights of citizens, whether in the digital or physical environment.

Rights guaranteed by law

Every holder of personal data has the right, among other guarantees, to:

  • To confirm whether an organization processes your personal data;
  • Access the data that this organization holds about you;
  • Correct incomplete, outdated, or incorrect data;
  • Request the deletion of unnecessary or improperly processed data;
  • Be informed about who your data is shared with;
