ITAPERUNA STANDS OUT FOR ITS RESISTANCE
Among the municipalities that faced the infamous privatization process, the city of Itaperuna stands out for its resistance, becoming a reference as a successful initiative in the fight against the handover of water services. Together with the union, important sectors mobilized and managed to show society the disadvantages of having such an essential and necessary service managed by the private sector.
With the goal of finding ways to maintain public sanitation in the municipalities served by Cedae and to re-nationalize services in privatized cities, the meeting opened as the starting point for a series of actions that will unfold within the first half of the year.
Hearings at the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro and in Brasília
Among the outcomes achieved during the meeting, the creation of a working group to discuss privatizations stands out, as well as the coordination of two public hearings for mobilization, one at the ALERJ (Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro) and the other in Brasília. It was also agreed that meetings would be held in all regions of the state, the next one being in the municipality of Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, initiatives that will culminate in a large statewide demonstration for renationalization.
