Reality: 40% of the world's water could disappear by 2030.

Currently, more than 700 million people still lack access to safe drinking water. In total, 20% of the world's aquifers are being exploited beyond their limits. OUR FIGHT IS FOR WATER AS A RIGHT, NOT A COMMODITY!

The UN warns that by 2030, 40% of the world's water resources could disappear.

Today, more than 700 million people still lack access to safe drinking water. In total, 20% of the world's aquifers are being exploited beyond their limits, which could compromise future water supplies.

Brazil still appears among the countries with low risk of water scarcity, but even so, the UN warns that the priority should be water management and sustainable use to guarantee reserves for the future.

According to the agency's most recent report, released about three months ago, Brazil is one of the countries with the most rivers diverted from their normal course due to hydroelectric dams, increasing degradation and the risk of siltation.

The newly created observatory will be one of the forms of resistance.

The National Observatory for the Rights to Water and Sanitation – ONDAS –, recently created (April 25) by social, union and academic entities from all over the country – including the FNU (National Federation of Urban Workers), will promote research and debate on the issue of water and sanitation in our country.

The observatory will also be one of the forms of resistance to the privatization of sanitation in the country. Its objective is to formulate policies for basic sanitation, fight against any attempt to privatize water, and develop documents in the sector.
